Orthodontics in Krakow — braces and clear aligners

Orthodontic treatment for children and adults at MistoDent Kraków. We match the treatment method to the type of malocclusion, tooth alignment and the patient's age — from fixed and removable braces to self-ligating braces and clear aligners.

Who provides orthodontic treatment at MistoDent Kraków?

Orthodontic treatment at MistoDent starts with a consultation and diagnostics. The orthodontist assesses tooth alignment, the bite and the relationship between the upper and lower jaw, and then presents possible treatment options. Depending on indications, we may use fixed metal braces, aesthetic braces, self-ligating braces, removable appliances, orthodontic appliances for children or clear aligners.

What does orthodontics deal with?

Orthodontics is the field of dentistry that diagnoses and treats malocclusion and misaligned teeth.

Orthodontic treatment can do more than straighten teeth and improve the look of your smile. It can also aim to achieve a correct bite, improve function and prepare the teeth for further prosthetic, implant or cosmetic treatment.

It is worth seeing an orthodontist in cases such as:

  • crooked or crowded teeth;
  • gaps and spaces between teeth;
  • an incorrect bite;
  • protruding or retruded teeth;
  • an incorrect relationship between the upper and lower jaw;
  • problems with tooth eruption;
  • the need to prepare teeth for prosthetic treatment;
  • bite irregularities noticed in a child.

Orthodontic treatment can be carried out in children and teenagers as well as in adults.

Types of orthodontic appliances at MistoDent Kraków

There is no single orthodontic appliance that suits every patient. We choose the treatment method based on the type of malocclusion, age, tooth alignment, oral conditions and the patient's expectations.

MistoDent Kraków offers various types of orthodontic appliances — from classic fixed braces to self-ligating systems, removable appliances and clear aligners.

Fixed metal braces

Fixed metal braces are one of the core methods of orthodontic treatment. Brackets are bonded to the tooth surfaces, and the archwire acting on them gradually moves the teeth into the planned position.

At MistoDent we offer classic fixed metal braces as well as various fixed brace systems chosen according to the patient's needs.

Aesthetic braces

For patients who want less visible fixed braces, aesthetic options are available, including sapphire / crystal braces and aesthetic self-ligating systems.

They work much like classic fixed braces, but the brackets are less visible on the teeth.

Self-ligating braces

Self-ligating braces use brackets with a special mechanism that holds the archwire without classic ligatures.

At MistoDent we use both metal and aesthetic self-ligating braces, including GC, AO and Damon systems. The orthodontist chooses the type of braces based on the malocclusion, tooth alignment and treatment plan.

Clear aligners — transparent orthodontic treatment

Clear aligners are removable, transparent trays made according to an individual treatment plan. Each successive aligner gradually moves the teeth into the planned positions.

At MistoDent we work with several aligner systems, so we can match the method and scope of treatment to the specific case.

Invisalign

Invisalign is a system of clear aligners used to gradually correct tooth alignment. Depending on the scope of treatment, various versions are available, including Invisalign Go, Light, Moderate and Comprehensive.

Spark

For aligner treatment we also use the Spark system, available in several versions chosen to match the scope of the planned orthodontic treatment.

E-motion Space

Another aligner option is E-motion Space. The system includes several treatment versions chosen, among other things, by the number of aligners needed and the scope of correction.

Whether aligner treatment is suitable in a given case is decided by the orthodontist after diagnostics.

Removable appliances

A removable appliance can be put in and taken out by the patient according to the orthodontist's instructions.

These appliances are used especially in the orthodontic treatment of children and teenagers, while the jaws are still developing.

Depending on indications, at MistoDent we use, among others, the Schwarz plate, Twin Block, Hass appliance, Herbst appliance, MSE, Helix and the palatal arch. The specific appliance is chosen according to the malocclusion and the patient's stage of development.

Children's orthodontics in Krakow

Children's orthodontics makes it possible to detect irregularities in tooth alignment and jaw development early enough.

Not every child needs braces straight away. The first step is to assess how the bite is developing and decide whether treatment is already needed or further observation is enough.

Depending on age and the type of irregularity, the orthodontist may use, among others, a removable appliance for children, the Schwarz plate, Twin Block, Hass appliance, a maxillary expansion appliance, 2×4 fixed braces or other functional appliances.

Fixed braces or clear aligners — which to choose?

Both methods correct tooth alignment, but they differ in how they work and how they are used.

What does orthodontic treatment look like?

  1. Orthodontic consultation — The orthodontist takes a history, assesses tooth alignment and the bite, and talks with the patient about their expectations.
  2. Orthodontic diagnostics — Depending on needs, diagnostics may include a clinical examination, photographs, dental scans and X-rays.
  3. Treatment plan — Based on the diagnostics, the dentist determines the scope of treatment and presents the possible types of braces or aligner treatment.
  4. Fitting the braces or starting aligner treatment — Once the plan is accepted, we begin the actual orthodontic treatment.
  5. Follow-up visits — During regular check-ups, the orthodontist assesses progress and makes any necessary adjustments.
  6. Retention — After active treatment ends, orthodontic retention begins to maintain the achieved tooth alignment.

Depending on indications, a fixed retainer or a removable retention plate may be used.

FAQ

Answers provided by

Dr. Kateryna Zadereshchenko

How much do braces for the upper and lower teeth cost?

The cost depends on the chosen system and treatment plan. Prices for many appliances in the price list are given per arch, so the cost of treating both arches is set based on the chosen appliance and the individual treatment plan.

What types of orthodontic appliances are there?

The methods used include fixed metal braces, aesthetic braces, self-ligating braces, removable appliances and clear aligners. The choice depends on the malocclusion, the patient's age and treatment options.

Self-ligating or classic braces?

Both are fixed braces, but they differ in bracket design. Self-ligating braces use a special mechanism that holds the archwire without classic ligatures. The choice of system should follow from the treatment plan prepared by the orthodontist.

How long do you wear braces?

Treatment time is individual and depends on the type of malocclusion, how far the teeth need to move, the method used and the course of treatment. The orthodontist can estimate the duration after diagnostics.

Do braces hurt?

After the braces are fitted or adjusted, the teeth may feel tender and there may be a sensation of pressure. Discomfort is usually most noticeable at the beginning and gradually eases.

Can braces be fitted on the upper teeth only?

In some cases this is possible, but the decision requires an assessment of the whole bite. Treating one arch should not disturb the correct contacts between the upper and lower teeth.

Can an adult get braces?

Yes. Adult orthodontics may involve both fixed braces and clear aligners. Whether and how treatment is possible depends on the condition of the teeth, the periodontium and the type of malocclusion.

When should a child see an orthodontist?

A consultation is worth considering if a parent notices misaligned teeth, bite problems or issues with jaw development. The orthodontist will assess whether treatment is needed or whether observation is enough at this stage.

What is retention after braces?

Orthodontic retention is the stage that follows active treatment. Its purpose is to maintain the achieved tooth alignment using, for example, a fixed retainer or a removable retention plate.
