Dental diagnostics in Krakow — X-ray, panoramic X-ray and CBCT
Modern dental diagnostics at MistoDent Kraków — dental X-rays, panoramic X-rays, CBCT scans and 3D diagnostics supporting precise treatment planning.
Dental diagnostics at MistoDent Kraków
Accurate diagnostics is one of the core stages of planning dental treatment. It lets the dentist assess not only what is visible during the examination but also the structure of the teeth, roots, bone and other areas relevant to the planned treatment.
At MistoDent Kraków we take basic dental X-rays as well as more advanced imaging, such as panoramic X-rays and CBCT scans.
The type of examination is matched to the specific problem and planned treatment — a different image may be needed before root canal treatment than in orthodontics, implantology or oral surgery.
What diagnostic tests do we perform?

Dental X-ray
A dental X-ray allows a closer assessment of a single tooth and its surrounding structures. A periapical X-ray can be used to diagnose changes not visible during a standard examination and to plan and monitor treatment.
At MistoDent we take digital dental X-rays, including periapical images.
Panoramic X-ray
A panoramic X-ray (OPG) shows the teeth and a wider area of the upper and lower jaw in a single image.
It can be used to assess the overall condition of the teeth and when planning surgical, orthodontic, prosthetic and other dental treatment.
CBCT scan
A CBCT scan allows a three-dimensional assessment of a selected area. Unlike a classic two-dimensional X-ray, it lets structures be analysed in 3D.
Cone beam CBCT can be used when planning implants, root canal treatment and surgical procedures, and in more complex dental diagnostics.
Depending on indications, we perform CBCT of a selected segment, the upper jaw, the lower jaw, both arches or the skull.
Cephalometric X-ray
A cephalometric X-ray is used mainly in orthodontic diagnosis and treatment planning. It allows the dentist to take measurements and assess the relationships between the structures of the skull and face.
3D digital diagnostic models
3D digital diagnostic models reproduce the patient's teeth and allow their shape, position and relationships to be analysed.
They can be used to plan orthodontic, prosthetic and other comprehensive dental treatment.
Gnathological diagnostics
In more complex cases related to the bite and the function of the masticatory system, diagnostics can be extended with gnathological tests, including analysis of CBCT data and functional tests.
The scope of diagnostics is always matched to the patient's problem and the planned treatment.
Panoramic X-ray, dental X-ray or CBCT — what is the difference?
Not every imaging test provides the same information. The dentist chooses the type based on the area that needs diagnosis.

The choice between a dental X-ray, a panoramic X-ray and CBCT depends mainly on the purpose of the examination.
When is dental diagnostics needed?
Diagnostic tests may be needed both to find the cause of a problem and before planned treatment.
We use imaging diagnostics in, among others:
- root canal treatment and endodontics;
- implantology;
- oral surgery;
- orthodontics;
- prosthodontics;
- diagnosis of impacted teeth;
- assessment of bone and structures around the teeth;
- planning more comprehensive treatment.
The scope of tests is decided by the dentist based on clinical indications.

How does dental diagnostics work?
- Assessing the problem — The dentist takes a history, carries out a dental examination and determines what additional information is needed for diagnosis or treatment planning.
- Choosing the right test — Depending on indications, this may be a dental X-ray, a panoramic X-ray, CBCT, a cephalometric X-ray or another type of diagnostics.
- Performing the test — The test is performed within the scope needed for further diagnosis and treatment.
- Analysing the results — The dentist analyses the image together with the clinical examination and other information about the condition of the mouth.
- Treatment plan — Based on the collected data, further steps and, if needed, subsequent stages of treatment can be planned more accurately.
Diagnostics matched to the type of treatment
Endodontics
In root canal treatment, imaging helps assess the tooth, its roots and surrounding structures. In more complex cases the dentist may extend diagnostics with a CBCT scan.
Implantology and oral surgery
Before selected surgical and implant procedures, CBCT allows a 3D assessment of the anatomical structures relevant to planning the procedure.
Orthodontics
Orthodontic diagnostics may use a panoramic X-ray, a cephalometric X-ray and 3D digital diagnostic models, among others.
Prosthodontics and comprehensive bite reconstruction
In more complex prosthetic treatment, diagnostics may include imaging, diagnostic models and additional functional and gnathological diagnostics.

FAQ

Dr. Yevgen Gryzodub
What is a panoramic X-ray?
A panoramic X-ray is an image showing the teeth and a wider area of the upper and lower jaw in one picture. It is used to diagnose and plan various types of dental treatment.
How does CBCT differ from a panoramic X-ray?
A panoramic X-ray is a two-dimensional image, while a CBCT scan produces a 3D image. This allows CBCT to assess the selected area in three dimensions.
How much does a panoramic X-ray cost?
A panoramic X-ray at MistoDent Kraków costs 200 PLN.
How much does a dental X-ray cost?
A periapical dental X-ray costs 80 PLN. If more images are needed, the dentist decides on the scope of diagnostics.
How much does a CBCT scan cost?
The price of a CBCT scan depends on its scope. CBCT of a segment costs 250 PLN, of one jaw 300 PLN, and of both jaws 400 PLN.
Is a panoramic X-ray the same as a dental X-ray?
No. A periapical X-ray shows a small area and allows a closer look at a specific tooth, while a panoramic X-ray shows all the teeth and a wider area of the upper and lower jaw.
Is CBCT a 3D X-ray?
CBCT uses X-rays to produce a three-dimensional image of the examined area, which is why it is sometimes called a 3D dental X-ray or 3D scan.
