Braces in Krakow — orthodontic appliances

Orthodontic braces for children and adults — fixed, metal, aesthetic, self-ligating and removable. Treatment tailored to the malocclusion and the patient's individual needs.

Who provides orthodontic treatment with braces at MistoDent Krakow?

Dr. Kateryna Zadereshchenko — orthodontist, prosthodontist, gnathologist. She provides orthodontic treatment for children and adults, including fixed and removable appliances and clear aligner systems. She chooses the type of appliance and the treatment plan based on diagnostics, occlusal conditions and the patient's individual needs.

What are orthodontic braces?

Braces, or an orthodontic appliance, are used to gradually change the position of teeth and treat specific malocclusions. They can be used in children and teenagers as well as in adults.

Depending on the clinical situation, the orthodontist may propose fixed, metal, aesthetic or self-ligating braces, a removable appliance or treatment with clear orthodontic aligners.

There is no single type of appliance that suits every patient. The choice of method is preceded by orthodontic diagnostics and an assessment of tooth alignment, occlusion and anatomical conditions.

When should you consider braces?

Orthodontic treatment may be indicated, among others, in the case of:

  • crowded and crooked teeth;
  • gaps between teeth;
  • incorrect relationship between the upper and lower arches;
  • malocclusion;
  • abnormal tooth eruption;
  • a narrow dental arch or upper jaw;
  • relapse after previous treatment;
  • the need to prepare tooth alignment for prosthetic or implant treatment.

Whether braces are needed and which type will be suitable is decided by the orthodontist after diagnostics.

Types of orthodontic appliances

At MistoDent Kraków we use different types of braces. We choose them primarily according to the type of malocclusion, the patient's age and the planned tooth movements.

Fixed metal braces

Fixed metal braces are the classic orthodontic appliance whose components remain attached to the teeth throughout active treatment. They gradually change the position of teeth according to the prepared orthodontic plan.

Aesthetic braces

Aesthetic braces work on the same principle as classic fixed braces but use less visible components. At MistoDent we offer, among others, sapphire / crystal braces and aesthetic self-ligating braces.

Self-ligating braces

Self-ligating braces use brackets with their own mechanism that holds the archwire. At MistoDent we use metal and aesthetic self-ligating braces, including GC, AO and Damon systems.

Removable appliance

A removable appliance can be put in and taken out by the patient according to the orthodontist's instructions. Such solutions are often used to treat children during growth. Depending on the indications, we use the Schwarz plate, Twin Block, Hass appliance, Herbst and other functional and orthodontic appliances.

Braces for children

Braces for children are chosen according to age, the stage of dental development and the type of malocclusion. At MistoDent we use both removable appliances and — where appropriate — fixed appliances for children, including the 2×4 appliance and solutions designed to influence the development of the arches and jaws.

Maxillary expansion appliances

Certain orthodontic problems may require expansion of the upper arch or the maxilla. Depending on age and the clinical situation, we use, among others, the Hass appliance and MSE. The indications for such treatment are determined by the orthodontist after diagnostics.

Metal, aesthetic or self-ligating braces?

The individual types of braces differ mainly in design and appearance.

Type of appliance

Characteristics

Metal braces

Classic fixed braces with metal brackets

Aesthetic braces

Less visible brackets, e.g. sapphire / crystal

Self-ligating braces

Brackets with their own archwire-holding mechanism

Removable appliance

Can be put in and taken out as instructed

Clear aligners

Transparent, removable aligners

The type of appliance alone does not determine the result. What matters most is correct diagnostics, an appropriate treatment plan and regular orthodontic check-ups.

Fixed braces or clear aligners?

In properly qualified cases, clear aligners can be an alternative to classic fixed braces.

Fixed braces stay on the teeth throughout treatment, whereas aligners are put in and taken out by the patient. They therefore require a lot of discipline and adherence to the recommended wearing time.

At MistoDent we offer, among others, Invisalign, Spark and E-motion Space systems.

Whether braces or aligners are the better solution depends primarily on the type of malocclusion and the planned tooth movements.

What does treatment with braces look like?

1. Orthodontic consultation

The orthodontist assesses tooth alignment, the bite and the patient's needs.

2. Diagnostics

We perform the examinations needed to prepare an individual treatment plan.

3. Treatment plan and choice of appliance

The doctor discusses possible solutions and chooses the right type of appliance.

4. Fitting the appliance

The braces are fitted or the patient receives an individually made removable solution.

5. Check-up visits

The orthodontist monitors the course of treatment and makes the necessary adjustments.

6. Removal of the braces and retention

After active treatment, a retainer or another form of retention is used to maintain the result.

Treatment time is individual and depends, among others, on the type of malocclusion, the patient's age, the scope of planned tooth movements and the course of therapy.

Braces — what to know before treatment?

Before starting treatment, it is worth keeping a few things in mind.

Do braces hurt?

After the braces are fitted and after some check-ups, temporary tooth sensitivity or discomfort when biting may occur. It is usually related to the action of orthodontic forces.

How long do you wear braces?

There is no single treatment time for all patients. It depends on the type of malocclusion, the scope of correction, age and the individual response to treatment.

Do you need to take special care of hygiene during treatment?

Yes. Plaque builds up more easily around brackets and archwires, so thorough home hygiene and professional cleaning are especially important during treatment with fixed braces.

What happens after the braces are removed?

After active treatment, orthodontic retention begins. It may involve a fixed retainer, a plate or a clear retention aligner.

The results of orthodontic treatment are best shown by real patient cases — from correcting minor irregularities to more complex malocclusions.

How much do braces cost?

At MistoDent Krakow, fixed metal braces cost from 3,800 PLN per arch. Aesthetic braces cost from 4,300 PLN and self-ligating braces from 5,300 PLN per arch. The total cost depends on the type and scope of treatment.

What types of orthodontic appliances are there?

The main types are fixed metal, aesthetic and self-ligating braces, removable appliances and clear orthodontic aligners. The type of appliance is chosen by the orthodontist after diagnostics.

How long do you wear braces?

Treatment time is individual. It depends on the type of malocclusion, the patient's age, the scope of planned tooth movements and the course of treatment. The orthodontist estimates the expected time after preparing the treatment plan.

Do braces hurt?

After the braces are fitted or adjusted, temporary tooth sensitivity and discomfort when biting may occur. If the discomfort is severe or lasts long, contact your orthodontist.

Can braces be fitted on the upper teeth only?

In some cases treating one arch is possible, but the decision requires an assessment of the whole bite. The positions of the upper and lower teeth are linked, so treating only one arch will not always be the right solution.

Metal or aesthetic braces — which to choose?

Both can be used for effective orthodontic treatment. Metal braces are more visible, while aesthetic braces use less visible brackets. The final choice should primarily take clinical indications into account.

How do self-ligating braces differ from classic ones?

In self-ligating braces, the brackets have their own mechanism that holds the archwire. Classic braces use additional elements to secure the archwire. The orthodontist chooses the system based on the treatment plan.

Can adults wear braces?

Yes. Orthodontic appliances are also used in adults. The possibility and scope of treatment depend on the condition of the teeth, periodontium, bite and planned tooth movements.

What is retention after braces?

Retention is the stage after active orthodontic treatment. Its purpose is to keep the teeth in their new position. Depending on the case, a fixed retainer or removable retention aligners are used.
